Handset Radiation Causes Temporary Changes In Human Cells - Finnish Research
AFX
April 19, 2002

Microwave radiation from mobile phones causes temporary changes in human cells, but health risks cannot yet be assessed, Finland's Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority said.

"We found that cells reacted to radiation from a handset, and that the cell's many protein functions changed. The production of proteins may change because of radiation," said research professor Dariusz Leszczynski, head of the research group.

Results from the research will be published next week in the Berlin-based science magazine Differentiation, said the authority.
