Lawsuit Aims To Block AWS
Auction With Cell-Phone Radiation A health-related lawsuit filed against Federal Communications Commission Chairman Kevin Martin and other agency members seeks to block the scheduled June 29 start of the advanced wireless services auction. The EMR Policy Institute, a watchdog group concerned about health implications of cellular phones and wireless transmitting towers, said the purpose of the suit is to halt the AWS auction until the FCC complies with the National Environmental Policy Act and conducts an environmental impact study on the effects of long-term exposure to low-intensity radio-frequency radiation. The suit was filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. The plaintiff, Maria Gonzalez, is represented by Whitney North Seymour Jr. Seymour is co-founder of the Natural Resources Defense Council and has challenged the validity of the FCC’s RF exposure guidelines in the past, but was not successful.
